Fell Ponies in many Media

Rare Steeds 2006

bay fell pony pulling a carriage and two peopleBBC Natural History Unit covers the Fell pony breed as part of their Rare Steeds radio series in 2006. The BBC audio track is no longer available on their Rare Steeds web listing, but as an interviewee I was given a copy of all five programmes on CD.

This is the Fell pony section of Rare Steeds (75MB .mp4) , with my own video and stills overlaid.

My Fell pony Ruby is the star of the show, thoroughly charming the presenter, Dylan Winter. The producer was Sheena Duncan, who provided some of the stills of Ruby and Dylan.

Fell Pony Breeders' Association films

A collection of 5 short films by Tom Lloyd which follow renowned Fell Pony Breeders in and around the Howgill Fells and give an insight into their experiences with semi-feral breeding herds on the open fell. Featuring the Murthwaite, Lunesdale, Lownthwaite, Greenholme and Wellbrow studs, the films document a traditional way of breeding and managing Fell Ponies that is endangered by the changing patterns of farming, landscape and society. Camera and production, Tom Lloyd.

Dales Diary 2007

Luke Casey interviews Fell pony breeders (and me). I don't think this is available online but I have it on DVD. More shortly if I can process it...

High Street Handicap 2005

BBC Radio 4 produced a programme about the trotting races on High Street. Poet and presenter Ian McMillan interviews Fell Pony enthusiast Clive Richardson, Bampton pub-goers, Museum curators (and me) about the old tradition of shepherds' meets on the summit of High Street, and bravely sets out with Bob Orrell, Fiona Carradus, Sue Wardle and two endurance-fit Fell ponies to reach Racecourse Hill in the teeth of a rainladen gale... Again, I don't think this is available online but I have it on DVD. More shortly if I can process it... Producer, Darren Broome.
